Overall Impression: Like the sun rising at dawn, Upon Letter A emerges over the horizon casting a gentle beam of light on the listener. This new Rock Orchestra work by James Neathery moves through solemnity, wishful exploration, and dramatic outbursts for an experience that many will enjoy. Encased in a moderately slow tempo, Upon Letter A keeps fanicful melodies at bay and instead showcases particular modds and textures. The majority of the piece is defined by the piano, acoustic guitar, and strings working with one another and cascading slowly through the sound space. As this mood reaches its threshold a Rock drum beat and distorted guitars enter, ripping their way to the conclusion. It is in this section where the piece finds its most secure footing. Overall, Upon Letter A by James Neathery has some fine musical moments, textures, and moods that fans of Rock Orchestras will love.
Strongest Point(s): When the electric guitars enter and begin soloing, Neathery's creativity really shines. The melodic ideas and killer guitar tones shoot the listener full of energy and keeps them holding on until the very end. By this point in the work, the drums have already taken everything to a new level. This entire section works as a great release from the solemn section that precedes it.
